Tension at SJP continues

E-mail Print
Tension at the Sri Jayawardenapura University continued today as protesting students were requested to leave the university premises by police, STF and army officials following a court order to remove the students from the campus.

Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said the students had to be removed due to an evacuation order and that the students have already been notified to leave the premises. “If they do not leave the premises we have no choice but to take necessary action to ensure they leave the university premises,” SP Rohana said.

Meanwhile an Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) source said two thirds of the student body remained in the university premises and had refused to leave despite the court order to remove them. (Olindhi Jayasundere)
