Colombo, April 26 (Daily Mirror) - Two women were trapped between two compartments this evening while trying to board a moving train before it stopped, the Railways Department said.

They said the accident occurred at around 4:35 p.m. as the Kandy-bound Colombo train was arriving at the Colombo Fort station, where it was supposed to stop for passengers to board.

Both women sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, they said.

A major rescue effort ensued, with bystanders and railway employees at the Fort station working together to free the women from between the train compartments, the Department said.

Unbelievable. May they get better soon.

Bystanders Stay Away If Not Assisting Saturday, 27 April 2024 01:14 PM

Yes, Hoping for a speedy recovery. Officials should also cordoned off the immediate area of the accident. Bystanders are hammering proper planning to execute a recovery. They are creating more chaos, anxiety, danger to themselves if further damage continues, contaminating the accident site of any possible evidence and crime to steel victims belongings. Do not crowd around accident sites unless providing assistance.

PRAYERS FOR THEIR RECOVERY Friday, 26 April 2024 10:00 PM

STUPIDITY AT ITS BEST, HOPE THEY RECOVER AND REALISE ONE BOARDS ANY TRANSPORT WHEN THE TRAIN, BUS OR ANY VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.

Full aathal Saturday, 27 April 2024 02:58 AM

    Stationary ! is it correct

    Concerned Saturday, 27 April 2024 04:09 PM

    Yes “stationary “ is correct.

    Shera Saturday, 27 April 2024 03:18 AM

Oh gosh. Why would they think they can board a moving train even if it is moving slowly? May they recover fully.

Sri Lankan Buffoonery!!!??? That inculcation was done from Primary school, who never follow sound advice!? They are "KNOW-ALL's". No amount of advice, against that Malpractice would change them! They follow 'HERD' instinct, like Thana-Kola eating Cattle!!??

People try to board the moving trains because of overcrowded trains. Many of the problems we have today are due to the economic status of the country.

    Nimal Saturday, 27 April 2024 06:55 AM

Presumably this is what is known as the "office train". Most of these commuters are experts at boarding the train when it is about to stop and yesterday being a Friday, there would have been a heavy crowd. However, it must be borne in mind that it is indeed dangerous, if not suicidal to board any moving vehicle. Thank God that their livers were spared.

Narrow Escape. Many People have died in the past. Better late than Late Mr/Ms/Mrs......

Sri Lanka Railways or its owner, the SL Government, is solely responsible for this. The trains must be technically equipped in such a way that even the stupidest passengers cannot suffer accidents of this kind. Every train must have doors that close automatically. If passengers block the entrances, the train will not be able to start. The doors can then only be opened when the train stops at a station. This is common in developed countries that use modern trains and not 100 year old junk.

Lesson learnt in the hardest way possible, hope they recover soon.

Bystanders Must Stay Away Unless Providing Assistance Saturday, 27 April 2024 11:17 AM

Police and Rail Officials should cordoned off the immediate area. All these bystanders are hammering proper planning to execute a recovery. They are creating more chaos, anxiety, danger to themselves if further damage continues, contaminating the accident site of any possible evidence and crime to steel victims belongings. Hope schools bring this topic up in their class or assembly sessions not to crowd around accident sites unless they are providing assistance.

6.9 m voted and now all are suffering. Oh, majority people what you have done for the past 75 years? Trust only politicians

    Sunil Saturday, 27 April 2024 01:19 PM

Typical Sri Lankan idiotic mentality. Just say that there is a suspicion of a bomb exploding in a vehicle and the people will crowd around it enthusiastically to see it explode. If a building is on fire, bystanders will crowd around it, dutifully preventing the fire and rescue officers from reaching it.

Surprisingly, except for one clown - no one blames the a) unelected president, b) transport minister, c) the 225, d) (most importantly ) promising such things won’t happen under a NPP government. It’s the passenger fault! Please get well soon ( and never ever repeat it as long as you live)

Presume this is the 4.35 office train from Fort to Kandy. Had this come earlier , at least 15 or 20 mins early, this wouldn't have happened. This is the problem with our trains. Always late and by the time they reach the platform, it's fully packed. This is the fault of the operations management system of the SLR.

Its terrible... in general majority have no common sense that is the truth good old days people had common sense thanks to the parents and the old who thought never to risk your self in danger today sadly its the opposite.now days people have no basics and the fellows who are the worse offenders are the bus drivers. people also become physiologically we must get inn

    Ruben Sunday, 28 April 2024 11:35 AM

Government must introduce proper procedures and guidelines to minimize accidents Buses Trains must be fully stoped before getting down or getting inn due to poor risk taken by majority commuters due to lack in basic knowledge on danger and it need to address where ever its possible
