There is a huge demand overseas for king coconuts (Thambili) from Sri Lanka yet the country is unable to meet the demand owing to a shortage locally, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said. He said a new program is to be launched to grow more king coconut plants in order to meet the export demand.

SL govt needs to curtails the export of King Coconut to 60% and 40% for local consumption . This will enable locals to consume at a reasonable price. If not local population will have to share a coconut soon. Take a look at Thailand , India and learn..

Last week I was in Bali Indonesia and I also visited Phuket in Thailand. There was plenty of thambili for sale in Bali and it cost me only one Indonesian Rupiah each which by Australian standards was very cheap. While in Phuket there was hardly any thambili to be seen but lots of kurumbas selling at 40 Thai Bhat each. I also visited a cashew factory which i hear is also in short supply in Sri Lanka currently.

This is wrong. First to serve SL Citizens, thereafter think of EXPORTS. Why are citizens denied?
