An individual travelling from Colombo to Welimada who fell asleep in the bus had missed the destination and alighted from the bus at an unknown area, only to be severely assaulted by the villagers who mistook him for a robber. Having seen the video footage of him being assaulted released to social media, he had committed suicide.
