University girl harassed on bus, suspect brought before court

Colombo, Sept. 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Cinnamon Gardens police arrested a person and produced him before court over allegations of harassing a university girl in a passenger bus while seated behind her.

A 27-year-old university student was allegedly harassed while travelling from Horana to Colombo in a private bus, when the suspect seated behind her discreetly pressed against her back on

several occasions, police told court.

The suspect was produced before court by the police following his arrest. Submitting facts, police informed court that the complainant is a 27-year-old undergraduate of the University of Colombo.

According to police, the complainant had been travelling from Horana to Colombo in a private bus when the suspect, who was seated directly behind her, on several occasions inappropriately touched and pressed against her back in a discreet manner.

Police further stated that when the victim raised her voice inside the bus and revealed what had happened, a police officer who was among the passengers apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama granted bail to the suspect on two sureties of Rs. 200,000 each and ordered that the case relating to this incident be taken up again on December 1.

Time to fix cctv systems inside buses to monitor both passenger and staff behaviours so that video evidence can be used in questionable situations.

Wonderful! I have been subjected to this perversion as a young girl in the buses and never had the guts to raise my voice for fear of retaliation. Police in those days were as useless as a used cndm. This new generation of young women deserve much respect and it is a win for even us older folk who endured in silence.

Luckily there was a cop travelling in he same bus if not very unlikely there will be a saviour for the victim. Why is this man released on bail? He will yet continue his nonsense, a more harsher punishment should be given so that it will be an eye opener for the other maniacs.

It is very difficult to comprehend how a person seated behind whilst the girl seated in front was pressed by the boy against her back in a discreet manner. This could happen only if both were standing passengers.Sometimes tall passengers whose limbs are long due to inadequacy of room space between seats the person sitting behind with no alternative may cause inconvenience to the person sitting in front as the behind cushion rest gets pushed and this does not construe that there are touching of bodies. For God's sake this melodrama should stop as I have seen many females and likewise many males like cattle in trains one over the other!!!!!!!!!

After all these lunatics are being offered with so called free education disturbing the hard working innocent being thought with TAX PAYERS MONEY. Sack this culprit. The culprit is not attending the Campus it is the complainant who is studying at the Colombo University. Even when you are unable to comprehend who the plaintiff and defence are, with your peanut brain you sit in judgement and talk some rubbish like TAX PAYERS MONEY LOST and sacking him from campus. My goodness if some of the readers sit in judgement they will make mince meat of the culprit due to experiences of their past as blooming flowers and now faded!!!!!!!!
