Colombo, Sept. 8 (Daily Mirror) - A private security officer, accused of allegedly video recording the vehicle carrying Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, was ordered to be remanded till September 10 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today.

Police told the court that the incident occurred when the Chief Justice, accompanied by his security officers, visited his residence in the Gregory’s Road area of Colombo and returned. According to investigators from the Cinnamon Gardens Police, the suspect was seen filming the Chief Justice’s vehicle, including the security convoy, using a mobile phone.

The Chief Justice's security officers apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police.

Police further requested the court to hand over the mobile phone to the Criminal Investigation Department to determine whether the recorded footage had been shared with any third party and, if so, the reasons behind it.

In addition, the court was informed that a psychiatric report on the suspect should be submitted by the prison authorities.

During the proceedings, the suspect’s counsel told the court that his client had recorded the Chief Justice’s vehicle and security convoy on behalf of his employer but denied any involvement in criminal activity. The defence requested that the suspect be released on bail.

After considering the submissions, the Chief Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till September 10.
