Colombo, Jan 18 (Daily Mirror) -  The Alliance of Health Trade Unions has announced the resumption of their suspended health strike, scheduled to commence on February 1.

The decision stems from a unanimous consensus reached during a special conference convened today, which brought together representatives from 72 health services unions.

The Ministry of Health had previously acknowledged the reasonableness of the economic justice proposal presented for health staff.

However, despite the strike being initially called off on 17th as a gesture of cooperation until the President's intervention, the Health Ministry's subsequent decisions were perceived as serious and unfair.

Besides, the leadership conference, meeting today, unanimously opted to protest against the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance for what they view as undue pressure on the healthcare services.

Government should never give in to the demands of these nurses who are doing bugger all except for a few dedicated nurses. Patients are told by these so called Florence Nightingales (a blemish to Florence the founder) and the attendants to hire outside help for caring of the patient the costs which are beyond the reach of the poor patients. Like in 1980 the President sent all those who struck work by issuing notices of vacant posts and got the forces to take over their duties. Teach these nurses a good lesson and thereafter they will come on their bending knees to reinstate them as they will never fit into the jobs available overseas.!!!!!!!

Changing name of the post from nurses to nursing officers, laboratory Assistans to laboratory technologists will not give any change in their knowledge / IQ. We don't need officers for measuring urine out put, arranging beds, giving drugs to patients accordingly what doctors asked under doctor's monitoring . Their responsibility is locking Patient’s daily drugs cupboards for trade union actions. Laboratory assistants are just handling automated machines. They dont do technology work. Here also doctors are the executives. Both of these works can be done by lay people with few days of training. Therefore abolish these posts and recurrent newly in casual basis. Then you can expect the quality.
