Mahanayakes request Presidential pardon for Gnanasara Thera

The Mahanyakes of the Four Chapters in the country requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe in a jointly signed letter to pardon Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera possibly before Vesak from his prison term of four years.  

In a four-paragraph letter, the Venerable Thera’s point out that Venerable Gnanasara Thera headed the Presidents Committee for a “one Country, one Law” and had given the guidelines for its fulfilment.   

Giving a background to the Theras prison sentence on 28.03.2024, the Mahanayakes set out that at a Media discussion at Kuragala Raja Maha Vihare, the Thera was accused of having made derogatory statements to bring about disunity among communities and was sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
