Woman found dead in Kumbukkan Oya after possible stoning attack

A woman who had gone for a bath in Kumbukkan Oya in  Lunugala on Sunday evening (19) had died of injuries all over her body  and her body was recovered from the banks of the river by the Lunugla Police.  

Police suspect that she would have been killed by pelting stones.  

The victim Sumitra Damayanthi (36) was a resident of  Janathapura in Lunugala. Investigations revealed that she had gone to  the river with her son, who returned home a little while later. Her son  told police that his parents were often quarrelling over a family dispute,  and on the day of the incident they had a tense argument.  

Meanwhile, her husband had fled from the area after the  incident. Police said the body was referred to JMO Badulla Teaching Hospital and that they initiated investigations to arrest the absconding  suspect.
