Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - Apart from organizing a debate between Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, let us publicly reassure the Sinhalese people, perhaps in a solemn ceremony, that they will not allow the Northern and Eastern regions to gain the right to self-determination, Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne urged today.

Addressing the media, he said certain political parties attempting to violate the sovereignty of the country, but that the association has an issue with the President for not revealing this to the country.

"The way the government and the Ministers are heading to is not correct. No decision was taken during the past one-and-a-half years by the subject Minister for the development of the public transport sector of the country. The President too does not interfere with the development of the transport sector.

"We know that the President is not working in violation of the sovereignty of the country. But we have a serious problem with some political party leaders. We love our country," Wijerathne said.

Who is this man talking of political issues of the country.Get lost, you had a good slap from once upon a time from mina and its well known to the general public..just look after your private bus association without poking your nose in to country's political affairs.

Whose lacky is this to start stroking racial discord into the upcoming election season. Sound a bit like the stuff that WW and UG used to do in the past when election draw neigh.

This is reality Wednesday, 01 May 2024 04:00 PM

Can't these fellows ever stop bringing racism to the fore? Its better you mind your bus business and let those involved mind the country's business.

    Thank you today's Gamunu.

NPP has probably promised that to them thst is why their leader is invited to visit diaspora countries. Since that party was doing nothing other than disruptive activities, handing over North and Eadt based on racial lines would be very simple task for them.

don't stir up this racial tension again and take the country back to stone age

Tissa Fernando Thursday, 02 May 2024 09:39 AM

@Ranjit or Ranjit Kumar, don't tell me who is doing everything on racial lines, saying that NE should be Tamil lands is a racist statement by itself. Jaffna University is only for Tamils right or wrong. ?

Gemunu Wijerathne: Don’t display your poor knowledge despite being a chairman. It’s not our choice mate. It is something UN decides when local mechanism to resolves fails. Learn the world politics first before you advise the politicians.

You seem overly impressed with the title of “Chairman”. Perhaps, it is the exemplary transport system that he oversees that impresses you.

    Mathanamutha Wednesday, 01 May 2024 07:23 PM

So you want another Gota to run the nation in the way he runs private buses on the roads? Because of your type, educated people are leaving the nation leaving you and this guy to torn the nation!!

    Danny Wednesday, 01 May 2024 05:19 PM

So, with the same token, can the people in North and East say no to self determination to the Sinhalese people? Uneducated racist idiot offer free advises to the educated politicians! Stay within your limit as country is still in red because of racism!!

Gemunu, I don't know whether you can read and write English, but if you can read English then read what is below: Concentrate on making our bus service efficient and effective by benchmarking it with London Bus services which means clean buses, polite drivers and conductors , comfortable seats and roomy walking spaces, higher roofs so that our heads don't get hurt, digital displays of bus number and route, safe driving and disciplined drivers who don't recklessly overtake and speed, eliminated drug and alcohol consumption of bus crew and proper ventilation of buses.timely departures and arrivals and no overloading of passengers. If you can't do this, resign and give it to another capable person.

And you return to northwestern India? Which is further from Tamilnadu. Such a tool

    Ganesh Wednesday, 01 May 2024 06:21 PM

First get your damn bus drivers to drive properly. It's akin to the kottu rotti maker advising as to how Murali should bowl. thanks to half breed pundits like you this country is still in the doldrums.

    George Wednesday, 01 May 2024 07:09 PM

Nobody requested your political advice. Your Private buses are menace on the road and cause of death and destructions on the road. Teach your drivers road safety, to drive with discipline and respect speed limits and drive within their tracks. Also make sure those buses are road worthy to be on the roads.

Dr. Dutu Wednesday, 01 May 2024 08:52 PM

After all, self determination for Tamils was a mantra by JVP founder. Anura Kumaraya may argue that was meant only for Tamil people not for North and East councils. Sajith and the rest of the deshapremi politics are curious because Ranil was made Dutugamunu Kumaraya by SLPP and the Pakshe people.

Sinhala people support self rule for the North, East and the Rest. One island three nations. They have come a long way since war. Not worth it. Self rule for each community is a beautiful and respectable concept.

In Sinhala, there's a saying about enduring conflicts likened to a beggar's wound. This comparison likely stems from beggars who bandage their hands or legs to feign a wound, one that never truly heals, merely a ploy to deceive and earn by begging. The situation in the North-East mirrors that of a (fake) beggar's wound deliberately kept open, fueled by racism, religious bigotry, pseudo-nationalism, pseudo-protectionism, and anti-English education, all aimed at instilling fear among the Sinhala population.

Sir Please walk the talk, ensure no kerosene oil pumped but good diesel. put off dirties from your buses

I believe that political parties and their representatives don't matter as much as the voters do. It's the voters who really shape our future. I have a simple question that no one seems to answer: What can we do if the people we elect don't keep their promises? I'd love to hear what other voters think about this.
