CR and FC pulled off another close win over traditional rivals Havelock SC by 17 points to 14 in the Nippon Paint Rugby Cup Championship encounter played at Longden Place today. It was a repeat of their close first round league encounter win which they won by two points (23-21). CR having taken a 10-8 lead at the breather accumulated their points through two goals and a penalty as against to a try and three penalties scored by the Havies.

The match no doubt was expected to be a closely contested affair and it ended that way. The first half saw Vageesha Weerasinghe going over for a try which was converted by Thenuka Nanayakkara making the conversion, who also booted over a penalty while Havies' Nivanka Prasad went over for an unconverted try and Sandesh Jayawickrama booted over the penalty with which the short whistle was blown.

The second half was hotly contested with the two sides sharing honours which ended in only 11 points being scored with Manilka Ruberu going over for an unconverted try. Sandesh Jayawickrama and Janith Chandimal booted over two penalties for Havies. Text by: By M. Shamil Amit / Pix by: Kushan Pathiraja
