Thunderstorm warning issued for eleven Districts

The Meteorology Department yesterday warned of thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning and thunder in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces and Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya Districts in the evening or night. It said temporarily strong gusty winds speeding up to 70-80 kmph were possible during the thunderstorms. The department warned the general public to refrain from using wired telephones and connected electric appliances and also warned the public to seek shelter, preferably indoors and in covered vehicles during thunderstorms.
