Protest demanding relief from rising cost of living turns tense in Colombo

Tension flared in the Pettah area last evening after police blocked a protest march organized by the People’s Struggle Movement from proceeding towards the Presidential Secretariat.

The demonstration, which began near the Colombo Fort Railway Station, led to a confrontation between protesters and police officers as authorities attempted to prevent the march from advancing along its planned route.  

The protest was organized by the People’s Struggle Movement to highlight concerns over the rising cost of living and to call on the government to reduce fuel prices, electricity tariffs and the prices of essential commodities.
