Special transport arrangements for Poson festival

The Poson festival committee has made arrangements to operate special buses and trains for the convenience of the heavy influx of pilgrims to Anuradhapura and Mihintale during the Poson festival.   

Chairman of the Committee, District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya told the media that the Department of Railways, the Sri Lanka Transport Board and the private bus operators have undertaken to make special transport arrangements for the convenience of the pilgrims   

Anuradhapura Railway Transport Superintendent Nirantha Wissundara said three special trains will operate from Colombo to Anuradhapura from June 26. He said the free train service between Anuradhapura and Mihintale will be available as in the previous years for three days from June 28. He warned the passengers to refrain from travelling on foot boards in view of any possible danger at narrow bridges on the Northern railway.   

The District Secretary said a fleet of 400 buses of the Anuradhapura Depot and 350 from other depots will be deployed to operate a special bus service.
