Plantation workers get Rs.1000 Wage hike

Estate workers today received the increased wage of Rs.1000 which was earlier approved by the Wages Board, Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure State Minister Jeevan Thondaman said.

He said the increased wages include a basic salary of Rs. 900 and a budgetary allowance of Rs. 100.00 per day.

The wages board granted approval to pay the increased wages after talks between the Department of Labour, the estate management companies and the plantation sector trade unions, the State Minister said.

However, the estate management companies suspended give these increased wages citing reasons that the workers, especially the tea pluckers for not achieving above the stipulated plucking norms, he added. (Ranjith Rajapakse)
