Yevan David wins euro formula open rookie crown

Colombo, July 4 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lankan racing driver Yevan David has created history by becoming the first driver from the country to win the Rookie Championship in the 2025 Euro Formula Open Championship, marking a major milestone for Sri Lankan motorsport.

The young driver sealed the rookie crown after an impressive performance at the final round of the season at Italy's Monza circuit, where he finished second in Round 2. The result also confirmed his overall runner-up finish in the championship standings.

Yevan narrowly missed victory in the Monza race by just one-thousandth of a second after a thrilling battle with Poland's Dymek Kucharczyk, who had already secured the overall championship title before the final race.

The Sri Lankan has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2025, delivering a series of podium finishes throughout the season. His latest achievement follows his memorable victory in a rain-hit race at Monza last year, which first signalled his potential on the European racing circuit.

With his championship position secured ahead of South Korea's Michael Shin, Yevan has further strengthened his reputation as one of Asia's most promising young motorsport talents while bringing international recognition to Sri Lanka on the global racing stage.
