Claiming that the youth who entered President's House and sat on the President's chair have been arrested, Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha De Silva questioned as to what action has been taken against the MPs who sat on the Speaker's Chair and damaged the microphones.

He told Parliament that a committee was appointed by the then Speaker to look into the incident and urged Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeygunawardhane to publish the report of the committee.

"No action is taken against the MPs who misbehave in Parliament. No action has been taken against the MPs who sat on Speaker's Chair, spilt water on it and damaged microphones. If it goes like this, we will have to face serious consequences. Where is the report. We like to have the report," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

If we keep dredging up incidents that took place during the time of the government before last, we would be unable to move forward. Why dredge up incidents that occurred two governments ago??!! If so, why not blame the new government for all incidents that have taken place during the past 70 years?? Some people just seek attention by comments like these!!

Bringing up about their bad behaviour is only way they can be identified to not to get voted for. Last time Ranil W because of SJB split fail to get votes for a seat... so others too can be prevented from get seat in future. System allowing for national list is of course unfair, because it allows for failed MP at last election to become our President.

No action against the perpetrators of 9th May attacks outside Temple Trees and Galle Face, all of that was recorded in camera. There was one statement from an attacker that they were brought out from prison to commit this crime

What law did the MPs who sat on the speaker's chair break by sitting on that chair ? Breaking into a public building by force, overturning a government elected by the people is terrorism

Parliamentary members rioted in Parliament, throwing Holy Bible away. What action taken against them by the then speaker? If you don't take action against Parliamentarians, release all the arrested protesters.

Without wasting time giving voice cuts, why don't you walk or take a bus to a police station and file a complaint as you would have been a witness for that crime? Cheap publicity is not what we want from a good person like you. We need decisive action.

MPs sat on Speaker's chair and broke the microphones, during the spell Sirisena appointed MR as the PM during Yahapalana. Subsequently Yahapalana got the control of the government and Harsha was a Minister of that governement. Why didn't he make such suggestion at that time to have taken action against those who breached the parliamentary code of ethics, and is it now that he has realized it?

This is all for show. The the so called MPs we the people have put in parliament are in cahoots. The tradition is to get elected to earn and not to serve. In there "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours" .. this will never end until we the people can find and elect people who don't need money.. and people who have some education with a value based upbringing.. its very very challenging ...

From what I know where I am in Colombo, if there came a person who was willing to put all 225 parliamentarians in prison he would get majority of votes of Sri Lanka.

We a tiny country in the world. Tuesday, 09 August 2022 11:22 PM

Harsha This is a peculiar country law makers exempted from punishment and the law is applicable for the common man only. First of all the Presidential system must be abolished from this country and all powers must be vested in the parliament. From JR upto now this system has completely ruined with all the powers in one man's hand.

    DENZIL Wednesday, 10 August 2022 12:01 AM

All the democratic rule breached and perished and there remains nothing any corrupt practice to conduct. People's elected President was sent home, no votes received President sat on the seat, that seating was too an offense, if so, Ranil must be ARRESTED for sitting on President SEAT..

    Arshas Wednesday, 10 August 2022 12:09 AM

Ask the then speaker and now the leader of a movement of jokers. Dr does not know that what happens within the well is governed by a different set of laws.

Jarawansa Saparamaduge Wednesday, 10 August 2022 02:29 AM

You are too late to make this claim, Harsha!! See what happened to Ponna appointment to the parliament - Paga/unethical court said it is OK to appoint a corrupt man 6 months later against the constitution; the case against was late. If someone get a job giving misleading information, even after 10 years he must be sacked!! Wonderful Siri Langa!!

Mr Forget De Silva Wednesday, 10 August 2022 09:10 AM

Mr Harsha, have you forgotten how law "worked" during Yahapalanaya? We're not born yesterday.

    K. Ranaweera Wednesday, 10 August 2022 09:10 AM

Harsha you are correct. You know one idiot ask whether Oxygen is to eat. So how can we expect decorum from such idiots.

Nilanthi Wickramasinha Wednesday, 10 August 2022 09:29 AM

Entering government buildings by force was trespassing.while MP’s were not trespassing in the parliament

    Abd Thursday, 11 August 2022 12:16 PM

Harsha’s question is question of the people s’ of the country, parliament is the place which decides law regulations to the country, so they must be perfect example to citizens, in a country where legislators break law cannot expect citizens to follow it
