The Sri Lanka Navy has urged the public to avoid being caught in human trafficking, trying to migrate illegally, and become guilty before the law.

This request has been made after a coordinated search operation carried out by the Navy and Police in Negombo last week, in which two  suspects were taken into custody in connection with a human smuggling case.

Accordingly, the individuals are suspected to have collected money from people promising jobs in a foreign country after facilitating illegal migration.

The search operation was carried out in Negombo on the evening of 04th January with the assistance of Negombo Police, based on information received by the Naval Intelligence. Accordingly, the raiding party had intercepted a suspicious car in which the suspects were travelling.

They are said to have collected Rs. 05 million from 20 people promising overseas jobs after facilitating illegal migration.

The apprehended suspects, aged 30 and 41, are residents of Chilaw and Kilinochchi areas. The 02 suspects along with the vehicle were handed over to the Negombo Police for onward legal proceedings, the navy said.
