Colombo, Jan 7 (Daily Mirror) - The 15th Population and Housing Census, which was started by the Department of Census and Statistics, will be completed on January 31, Colombo District Secretary K.G. Wijesiri said.
He told the media that the Population and Housing Census programme was started on November 1, 2023, covering the entire country.
"When conducting the Population and Housing Census programme our officials had to face many issues while collecting details. Some people were helpful, and some refused to give their details. There were difficulties when entering certain houses as they were closed and the gates locked," Wijesiri said.
However, legal action will be taken against the individuals who refused to give details relating to the programme, he added

When couduting such programs ppl must have the confidence who is entering their premises. In a country where thivies also disguise as officials and enter homes. What can u expect from the common ppl???? The program is important, that's accepted but don't expect ppl to welcome anyone into their house at a time of such situation in the country. Everything is done is such a rush... Don't expect a fair election in this banana Republic.

Housing census is good. Giving small plots of land to homeless to build houses is no good. All the governments have been doing this. SL Land mass is limited and in another 10 years there will not be land for agriculture and industries. Government must build apartments/flats with several floors for the homeless as in Singapore and charge a nominal rent
