Police warn public against fake social media posts claiming official guidance

Colombo, March 17 (Daily Mirror) - Amid a surge of misleading information online, the Sri Lanka Police has alerted the public to fake social media posts circulating under the title “Awareness by the Sri Lanka Police Department,” which falsely claim to provide official guidance.

The Police clarified that all authentic awareness messages are issued solely by the Police Media Division, using official letterheads. Daily updates and notices are published exclusively through the official Police accounts and channels managed by the Media Division.

Authorities warned that individuals or groups sharing posts falsely claiming to be from the Police could be investigated to determine whether the activity is part of a coordinated operation.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and rely only on official channels for accurate information, with the Police emphasizing the importance of verifying content before sharing it online.
