Colombo Bank legal officer arrested for alleged theft

Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) - A 47-year-old female lawyer attached to the legal division of a Colombo-based commercial bank was arrested last night (18) at a supermarket in Ratmalana while allegedly attempting to steal multiple items.

Police said the suspect was found in possession of 520 grams of chicken, 250 grams of beef, roasted cashew nuts, a toothbrush, and a lunch sheet packet, collectively valued at Rs. 5,290. The items had reportedly been concealed inside her handbag.

CCTV footage had earlier captured the suspect allegedly placing the goods into her bag while shopping, prompting supermarket staff to alert police.

Officers who responded to the complaint stopped the woman as she was leaving the premises, and a subsequent search conducted by a female police officer led to the recovery of the suspected stolen items.
