The leakage of water in the Samanalawewa reservoir cannot be stopped, Ceylon Electricity Board’s accessory manufacturing arm Sri Lanka Energies Private Limited (SLE) said.
The SLE told the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy and Transport that met on Tuesday at the Parliamentary complex that even though various measures have been taken to prevent the continuous water leakage, no result has yet been found.
They also told the committee that a ‘covert operation’ is also being carried out by a group under the pretense of preventing the water spill.

One wonders whether proper geological studies were conducted prior to designing this dam. However, we cannot see what is under the ground. Hence, it must be accepted that even the best of studies can be somewhat deceptive. We stand to loose by way of lost power generation. However, all this water is not wasted. It will flow to the Uda Walawe reservoir.

If the Sri Lankan engineers are incompetent, they should bring dam experts from Switzerland

Safety first, the downstream residents must made aware of and precautions taken to avoid a disaster. The leakage is apparently clear water and no panic.

The late Mr. Macky Hassen, distinguished by his tenure as a senior engineer at The Sri Lanka Irrigation Department, possessed extensive experience and expertise. Upon retiring, he was tasked with leading a team of experts to investigate the water leakage issues plaguing the Samanalawewa reservoir. Their thorough investigation concluded with a sobering report, affirming the impracticality of permanently stopping the leakage. However, Mr. Hassen's wise advice recommended continuous vigilance and maintenance as effective strategies to mitigate the problem, while also informing higher authorities about the imminent dangers facing communities living around the reservoir.

Please name the people in that committee .Let's have a little study to look into how many of them will understand what we are talkin about. Secondly let's entrust the task to engineering facilities of all Sri Lankan universities. Let's do a brainstorming of young talent. Masses are confident solution is in hand of younger generation. Not in old commission earners hand.

I am sure that they don't want to stop the leakage, so that the owners of mini hydro projects down stream are benefitted!

I was part of the wet blanketing project carried out by CEB involving a Japanese Consultancy firm Nippon in late 1998-1999. Surprise to see nothing happened. However at the time, many said a reduction in the volume of water flow.
Mini-hyrdo owner behind the prevention of solution Friday, 23 February 2024 08:09 PM
There is now a mini-hydro owner who makes much, from the fact the leak cannot be blocked. He is surely doing is best to ensure officials keep failing, as he keeps making money while it happens. End the Mini-hydro business that flourishes from the Samanalawewa reservoir leak and soon, the leak will be stopped after amazing new but really obvious solution.

Sanska International (Pvt) Ltd. of Sweden told when he was at Kukule that there was nothing impossible in Engineering. So, nothing impossible. Of course, you can't get commissions over the purchase of oil and coal as other resources.

recall a spate of arguments in the media as well as the Institution of Engineers in the early 90's when the then government hired an international dam expert Dr.Tariq from Pakistan, who recommended wet blanketing as previously recommend by Dr.A C Viswalingam who had carried out similar work in Ghana. But our own Dr.Kulasinghe objected to it. and now after all these years the leak still continues
