Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) - The remark made by National People's Power (NPP) strongman K. D. Lalkantha at the recent May Day rally that a future NPP government will decentralize judicial powers to its cadres at village level, triggered a flare up in Parliament with both the ruling party and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) launching a verbal attack on MP Harini Amarasuriya.

The flare up occurred when State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said Lalkantha had pledged to vest judicial power with his party cadres at the village level.

An audio clip which comprises Lalkantha’s speech was played by SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna.

Ms. Amarasuriya said Lalkantha never mentioned that judicial powers will be devolved to NPP cadres in the village level. “Mr. Lalkantha only ensured access to justice to all people,” she said.

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe who responded recalled how one JVP member Sumanasena who intervened and resolved land disputes in 1989. “ JVP cadres took law into their hands during that time.

MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage who responded said Lalkantha is going to be the minister of justice in a NPP led government in the future. “Lalkantha has shown how he is going to act in a future NPP government,” he said.

“JVPers killed those who voted in the 1988 presidential election,” he also recalled.

Ms. Amarasuriya said there is no use in talking of the 1989 insurrection now.

“Ms. Amarasuriya may be able to forget that past, we cannot,” Aluthgamage replied.\

How is this different? The principles, beliefs and social hangups are still the same. Your apples are full of worms. Be prepared for complete anarchy if this ridiculous plan comes to fruition.

Some of Lalkantha’s expressions of views controversial,he can write books or a free individual ha can do so but near elections his utterances may badly reflect on party popularity

Exactly, reading this article will strike fear on any foreign investors or expats. We know the mentality of some of the village youths. They will use this opportunity to punish the rich and entrepreneurs. Most lazy rural folks (especially what I have observed in Jaffna) want to complain about poverty but don’t want to work. Their entitlement , thuggery, along with drinking problem is rampantly visible. Already the courts systems drag cases for years on end, even petty complaints. And with morons like K. D. Lalkantha people will shun Srilanka. NPP should weed out these fools from their party if they want to win the election.

People! Get ready! The English speaking lady may not know the past, but everyone else does. The future justice minister has announced how justice will be served! Heads propped up on fence posts it is.

Is this how NPP going to rule the country if they are selected? No second to Gota rule who destroyed the economy. These guys will destroy all values.

Was the lady born after 1988?

Oops, the cats are coming out of NPP bags well ahead of the elections. Kangaroo courts and comradeship with an unproductive workforce will be the hallmarks, if the No Policy Party wins. Best of luck to NPP worshippers.

Lalkanth is more honest and he is full of fire waiting to burn. Yes he is correct that has always been part of core JVP ideology, their cadres exercised it during the uprising at village level, they even punished by shooting those who went to vote during their order banning it. The will use judicial powers to get even with all the citizens who did not vote for them. They already have a list.Cuban leader after taking power ,got his cadres to shoot and kill his opponents.

We remember MP Sumanthiran exposed with examples about these illiterate members who vote against the motion of no confidence in the Parliament. The way these members speak and behave, reminds us of that example. Apart from that, it was proved that UNP, Pohottuwa, SJB have all become one party. The SLFP will soon join them. So Anura's prediction is right. All on one side, NPP is competing on the other side..

SCARE TACTIVES WILL COME UP FROM TIME TO TIME DO NOT GET FOOLED. Wednesday, 08 May 2024 11:14 PM

I AND MY WHOLE FAMILY WERE STAUNCH UNP SUPPORTERS ALL OUR LIVES, BUT NOT ANYMORE. THE COUNTRY HAVE HAD WAY TOO MANY DECADES OF CORRUPT POLITICIANS IN GOVERNMENT HANGING ONTO THEIR POSITIONS ANS BECOMING MULTI MILLIONAIRS AT THE EXPENSES OF THE TAX PAYERS/AND OR COUNTRY. NPP/JVP HERE THEY SOME TO REFORM POLITICS IN SRI LANKA AND BRING THE CORRUPT AND NEST FEATHERERS TO COURTS/FORFIT THEIR ILLGOTTEN WEALTH AND PUT THEM BEHIND BARS FOR YEARS TO COME

    Abd Friday, 10 May 2024 07:27 AM

NPP basically trying to make a concoction which is good to all people of the country for all sufferings but Lalkantha seems trying to add different ingredients in different proportion, which might certainly spoil whole medicine , but he may have his own reasons for it
