Govt. will reimburse only refundable deposits to Adani: Energy Minister

At a media briefing on August 16, Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody confirmed that Sri Lanka’s government will reimburse only the refundable portion of deposits placed by the Adani Group for the Mannar Wind Power project. The Sustainable Energy Authority has been tasked with identifying which deposits qualify as refundable.

Another District Court Judge interdicted; total reaches 10 in a month

The Judicial Service Commission has interdicted yet another district court judge this month, bringing the total to ten. A Gampaha-based Civil Appellate High Court judge has also been directed to retire amid performance concerns, while judges in Minuwangoda face ongoing misconduct investigations at the Judges’ Institute.

Nearly 20 % of CEB engineers have migrated overseas

Approximately 226 engineers—nearly one in five—from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have emigrated over the past three years. The majority (85 %) were electrical engineers, with others in mechanical and civil disciplines. Central Bank expects inflation rebound to 5 % target in early 2026

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said the current deflationary phase is temporary and expects inflation to return to the 5 % target within seven to eight months, i.e., by early 2026. He reaffirmed that the current policy rate of 7.75 % and a 2.75 % real interest buffer position the bank well to manage economic shifts.
