Colombo, July 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has raided the restaurant compartment of the Colombo–Jaffna express train after uncovering the sale of bottled drinking water above the marked retail price.
The raid was carried out by CAA officers at the Anuradhapura Railway Station today (9), where officials found that a bottle of drinking water with a marked price of Rs. 120 was being sold for Rs. 150.
The CAA said legal action has been initiated against the relevant parties for overcharging consumers.
The Authority has also informed the Railways Department in writing about the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the sale of goods at inflated prices in train restaurant compartments.
According to the CAA, this is the fourth raid conducted on train restaurant compartments in recent months over similar consumer rights violations.
