Public Security Ministry Secretary fined Rs. 2,500 over 2023 road accident

Colombo, July 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, retired Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ravi Seneviratne, was today (9) fined Rs. 2,500 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court in connection with a 2023 road accident in Wellawatta.

Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala Silva imposed the fine after Seneviratne appeared before court and pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to prevent the accident.

Appearing on behalf of Seneviratne, attorneys Chandana Perera, Sheethma Fernando and Ajith Nandakumar informed the court that their client admitted guilt only to the first charge relating to the failure to prevent the accident.

The court, however, postponed proceedings on the remaining two charges—reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol—to August 20 for further hearing.
