CAA imposes new maximum retail prices for bottled drinking water



Colombo, June 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has imposed new maximum retail prices (MRPs) for locally packaged and bottled drinking water, effective from today (10).

Issuing an order under Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003, the CAA stated that no manufacturer, packer, trader or distributor shall sell, offer for sale or display bottled drinking water above the prescribed prices.

According to the order, the maximum retail prices are as follows:

500 ml to 999 ml – Rs. 80 per bottle

1 litre to 1.499 litres – Rs. 120 per bottle

1.5 litres to 1.999 litres – Rs. 150 per bottle

2 litres to 2.499 litres – Rs. 180 per bottle

5 litres to 6.999 litres – Rs. 400 per bottle

The prices apply to drinking water packaged in Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles.

The CAA also announced that the new order rescinds Order No. 93 published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2430/15 dated April 1, 2025.

The order was issued by Acting Chairman S.M.D. Suriyakumara on behalf of the CAA and came into effect from today (10).
