What was VAT charged on these items in the first place? This is nothing but chanda gundu. People cannot be deceived this time. They have already made up their minds.

This is what Hon Harsha was telling you when VAT rate was revised to 18%. You did not accept his point of view at that time. Now trying to get credit for this.

It wouldn't have happened if there aren't any elections in a few months. Let's see if the Sri Lankan voters, after getting tricked, whipped and rolled over for 76 years are still easy prey for such gimmicks.

    Ruwan Thursday, 07 March 2024 03:37 AM

If these are gimmicks then whoever else comes to power will have no way of continuing this benefit. When they can't continue Aragalaya 2 will begin, see?

    Sunil Wednesday, 06 March 2024 02:34 PM

You increase VAT and then reduce. Then our foolish Sri Lankan voters think a big favour done and vote for the wrong people. This is like saying Price is Rs 1000 but discount is 300 and net Price is Rs 700. Exploiting the psychology of people. I am not blaming and pointing at current leadership but done by all politicians.

It’s just for couple of months, soon after the election, who else win, will find reason to bring back VAT

    Nihal S Wednesday, 06 March 2024 04:18 PM

    Elections coming up.

    Sagala Wednesday, 06 March 2024 05:29 PM

Seems to be mere Rhetoric, whether it will be implemented is left to be seen.

    Kamal Wednesday, 06 March 2024 07:12 PM

Elections are surely round th corner

Now the president is offering carrots trying to win the hearts of the people. Wrong action at the wrong time. The people have suffered enough and they have decided.
