The Court of Appeal today issued an interim injunction, preventing the execution of the arrest issued against Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa and four others over the demolition of a historical building in Kurunegala, until the hearing of the petition filed over the incident is concluded.

The order was issued by the Court of Appeal two-judge-Bench comprising Justice (President) A.H.M.D. Nawaz and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna.

Five petitioners, including Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa had filed writ petitions in the Court of Appeal seeking interim relief to suspend the warrant issued by the Kurunegala Magistrate in connection with the demolition of a building with archaeological value in Kurunegala.

Bad decision! They arrest the innocent and let the real criminals like Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa go free! Lock him up!

This is why you need lot of money in Sri Lanka. If you got enough money, you can hire the best lawyers and go to a higher authority. See how many land related matters are getting dragged on for years and years. Somewhere something is wrong.

I wish Independent Judiciary in Sri Lanka; so that courts will follow only the Law of the land not the orders of rulers. I know that I am asking for too much. What to do, I am a normal citizen

This is not applying one law to all in the country. A young tamil school girl was detained by the authority for several weeks for just scratching the frescoes at Sigiriya, whereas this vocal mayor has completey destroyed a historic building and is allowed to function as a free and useful citizen, setting a really bad example to the country. What sort of country is this. Less than one week passed after the president's declaration that it will be one law throughout the country, but the court has taken a political decision. Not supported by the general public, as it is setting a bad example.
