While claiming that the Metropolitan Police have not deployed any officers in support of the Sri Lankan investigation into the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, Britain on Wednesday said that Metropolitan Police ‘will consider any request to support an overseas investigation where it is proportionate, necessary and legal.’

In response to a written question by a Labour Parliamentarian whether the Metropolitan Police are taking steps to support the investigation into the 2019 bombings in Sri Lanka, Minister of State (Home Office) (Security) Tom Tugendhat informed the UK Parliament that Metropolitan Police have not deployed any officers.

However, he said that the Home Office works closely with policing partners to support requests from international partners across the full spectrum of policing.

“The Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism command dispatched a team of specialists to Sri Lanka in 2019, including family liaison officers, to support the families of British victims and assist with the repatriation of deceased British nationals. A programme run by Interpol involved the training of 30 Sri Lankan forensic specialists and police officers by UK experts in disaster victim identification,” the Minister stated.

Earlier, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said he will seek the assistance of the police authorities of the UK in order to complete the investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks of 2019. (Sunil Jayasiri)

What will they find out ? Will they find out MS and Ranil had some responsibility on this ? I think this another trick by Ranil to save all politicians who evolved on this matter

Are we going to get help from the London police called by the name Metropolitan Police or the Scotland Yard ? Is this a joke. Only yesterday an investigation into the corruption in the metropolitan police was published. It says that the London police is racist and corrupt and many corrupt policemen are still working in the force. In response the newly appointed Police Commissioner ( the previous female commissioner was asked to leave the job few months ago) said that “ there are hundreds of policemen with criminal offences presently serving in the police and that he intend to remove them soon”. This rotten police force is more corrupt than the Sri Lankan police. The problem is bad news from Britain is never published in Sri Lankan papers . So all Sri Lankans think high of Britain .

@SH, it appears you have a mental age of a 5 year old.

Sri Lankan Friday, 21 October 2022 09:25 AM

Britain is falling apart but still the colonial arrogance has not left them.

    Punchi Friday, 21 October 2022 09:35 AM

Wouldn’t this be a form of interference in our internal investigation mechanisms?

    Jude Friday, 21 October 2022 10:07 AM

You don't need the help of scotlandyard or UK Metro Police to catch the culprit, the culprit roaming freely and he's the disgraced former President who was forced off from office!!

    R J Friday, 21 October 2022 10:10 AM

Types of violent crime in Britain is shocking. Yet you don’t see policemen in streets. Brainless philosophy in policing . So it is ludicrous to call them to come and assist in Sri Lanka.

    Jude Friday, 21 October 2022 10:18 AM

Hey the culprit is in the island and he's commonly known as Gota!! Yeah that's guy responsible for that Easter Sunday barbaric attack!!

Calling for others to help is a delaying tactic as it seems no request has been made to the UK government. Strangely, the 472-page final report of the Presidential Council was handed over to the main suspect on 1st February 2021. The first and second interim reports were handed over to the same person on December 20, 2019, and on March 02, 2020, respectively. Is it a surprise that they will be buried? As long as we have the pohottuwas controlling the judiciary, all involved will be walking free.

    Mahila Saturday, 22 October 2022 02:42 AM

(Part I) "As long as we have the Pohottuwa controlling the judiciary, all involved will be walking free." I see your point and agree with you totally!! The question (64 million dollar) begging an answer is who is responsible for this ludicrous state of Affairs?? SIMPLE - IT IS THE ELECTORATE!!!?? If as expected the electorate, emancipated, educated and wise, wanted rectitude they would never have voted that they did!!!! The electors – 6.9 Million Majority of SRI LANKANS - didn't want rectitude or apprehend culprits, bring the stolen money to the country?? To alleviate poverty, so that people (TBC)

    Mahila Saturday, 22 October 2022 02:44 AM

(Part II) didn't have to starve or be deprived of necessities - Gas, Fuel, Power for cooking and transport?? No alternatives, answers must come from the WIZKIDS – 6.9M voters - not anyone else?? 6.9 million, the majority who installed the Pohottuwa SLPP (GR, MaRa, BR and their acolytes) in power, because of a MYTH about countries’ security!! They can’t see the truth, through their ‘misted vision’, - Race. Religion, Language, Caste and other primitive backwardness inherent in them?? None retrieves robbed “HUNT” from the ‘Lions’ Den’??? Meaning ‘Power Wielder’ – the “KING”!!! PEOPLE GET THE LEADERSHIP THEY DESERVE – NONE ELSE!!??

R J : Interpol did a great job concerning the attacks by the IRA in Britain. Why are they not making progress in Sri Lanka? Maybe because of the Sri Lankan CID?When will Sri Lanka's Easter bombings investigations ever come to an end?

Justice seeker Friday, 21 October 2022 11:15 AM

There are bad apples in every organisation. An international Truth commission should be established to investigate and name the persons responsible for the disappearances, white van abductions and murderers. The innocent need not fear. Justice should prevail for SL to move on.

Eyewashing interna Friday, 21 October 2022 11:38 AM

Your support might end up with the real culprits coming out which we all these days say we do have internal commission reports which we are now editing to our requirements.

Reply to Brit: have you forgotten about the Guilford four and the Birmingham six?

    W J Friday, 21 October 2022 03:05 PM

Nelum, I live in London and I totally agree to every word from S H . You must be a gullible fool.

    Jef Friday, 21 October 2022 03:52 PM

Great to see Mr president have no objection our people must think about the families that lost innocent love one's if our authorities have difficulty in finding the truth behind then we must get our foriegn expert's to investigate we lost not only sri lankans we lost foriegn friends as well families have to go trough a very extremely difficult time some are stil crying for justice you can't bring back the people who lost life's at least getting to the bottom finding the truth will give peace and justice Never to have a nother repeat ever...again killing innocent

    Kps Friday, 21 October 2022 05:17 PM

U.K are you kidding? Prime minister resigned yesterday. Country is going through an inflation which they haven’t had in years since World War II. You mean to say , they are coming to Srilanka to help? This is just another political drama. Victims will never reach the justice.

Dilshan Perera Friday, 21 October 2022 06:38 PM

At least carry out the death sentence on those Eastern province extremists who were fully involved in planning the bombings and are already in custody.. only then there will be any credibility.. next investigate the Eastern politicians..

Sam Sen Friday, 21 October 2022 07:48 PM

The obvious culprits of Easter bombing will never be found by any investigation. This is the kind of justice system you find in a Sinhala Buddhist country. This type of moral bankruptcy will sure ruin the country further.

Dhathupala Balusinha Saturday, 22 October 2022 01:29 AM

Instead, UK must inform the SL politicians to resign as they have failed to rule the economy since 1948! Thieves, Kappamas and bribe men are current ministers!!

    wsw Saturday, 22 October 2022 02:32 AM

@Nelum, you fit into the typical bill of the stereotype white bootlicker. Have a good day !!

British Arrogance never ceases to amaze me regardless of it's emptiness.

    Ben Saturday, 22 October 2022 06:29 AM

Dear Rev. Cardinal, Government may not in real intention to go behind this issue, but to you and public want justice for innocent who died while praying, so make use this opportunity, request them to get involved, which local police failed

    felix Saturday, 22 October 2022 08:32 AM

If international assistance can be sought for Easter Sunday attacks, why not the same for May 2009 genocide? One Country Two laws

    tilak Saturday, 22 October 2022 08:33 AM

Just a few days ago Ali Sabry said involving international agencies was against the constitution of SL, how come President ask UK for assistance

    Muhunthan(Walker) Sothilingam Thilagawathy Sunday, 23 October 2022 03:26 AM

That’s good first step to go forward for the investigation of that bombing to find out the culprits. But for a hind I was staying on those days one of the students accommodations in melbourne on that sad day or one day before before the blast happened, one of the students thug place a rubberband infront of my room , the student accommodation is one of the melbourne Polytechnic campus’s students accommodation in Fairfeild in victoria. Good luck for the investigation.
