Travel restrictions should be further tightened up to 80 to 90 per cent and the imposed restrictions should be implemented perfectly, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing the media, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Samantha Ananda said the technical committee of the Health Ministry should decide at what time and how the travel restrictions should be imposed.

"The technical committee is under the Heath Director General and the decision should be a technical decision. The technical decisions should be implemented by the Army and the police. If the decisions are not implemented properly, legal action should be taken against the violators," the GMOA said.

Other than the technical decision, we cannot control the virus by only giving statements to newspapers, radio and television. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Don't let loose and come out with economy and dollar shortage in the country.

You medical people are scaring the hell out of the public and confusing them by this lock down stories. The people will die of starvation and not of Covid in the very new future. This lock down is only making the vendors rich. There is no control of prices. A kilo of pumkin is going at Rs. 200 just imagine of other vegetables and goods.

Dr WHO Tuesday, 24 August 2021 09:22 PM

Any new thinking rather than calling for lock downs? Like investigations into why the death rate is higher in our country compared to our neihhbors? Anything wrong in how we treat the patients? Or we need more qualified staff or facilities or medicines? We need experts to find a way to come out of lock downs while minimizing the death rates. Not to further tighten the lock downs.

Sri Lankan doctors have been a failure i during the Covid pandemic. They are selfish, arrogant and ignorant and that is one of the reasons for so many people to die.

Travel restrictions should be further tightened to control the virus: if Virus can inform the general public the movements can be controlled as an easy way. Please do a research on this and inform the public

Mr. Hollow Wednesday, 25 August 2021 11:08 AM

Cut all salaries of GMOA officers to half and then we can have a permanent lockdown as suggested. Lets see who cries first

The country has been ruined and gone out of control due to preach and advices by stakeholders. everyone has become champion of the cause where masses are suffering a lot, no job, no work, no money. therefore make a full stop and get on to the normal life and face as it comes

These fellows don't talk of the deaths, mostly of the Senior Citizens, who were denied priority in Vaccinations from the beginning

Doctors terms of reference is to treat patients and not get involved in political decisions

    Barney Wednesday, 25 August 2021 04:28 PM

@Rajive de Silva. During a war the armed forces will advice on how to fight the war. During a pandemic the health forces will advice on how to fight it. If there are no people left alive a 'thriving' economy has no purpose. Please understand the situation our country is in or just visit your closest hospital and you'll find out.

Chase away these book worms. For the god's sake, these doctors don't seem to have even a little knowledge in other things than medicine. Don't they watch TV news or good programs to learn a few new things other than medicine?
