An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued declaring a State of Emergency across the island with effect from today.
The state of emergency has been declared in a proclamation by Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe in terms of Article 40(1)(C) of the Constitution, by virtue of the powers vested in him by Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978 and Act No. 28 of 1988.
According to the gazette, the public emergency in Sri Lanka has been declared in the interests of public security, the protection of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community.

Interim President is doing the correct thing by informing the public of the current bad situation truthfully about our country and even fore warning about the global problems that are in the horizon. However he is failing miserably as he is not sharing the short medium and long term action plan we as a nation should be adopting under a formerly appointed president and govt. RW must improve his trust and consistently communicate to the innocent non political civilians.

This is the only country in the world where rulers cannot govern without creating a threat, a war against her own citizens, ensure emergency rule in place, use State Terrorism, use Armed Forces not for threats of another country but on your own citizens.
Menon Monday, 18 July 2022 10:52 AM
Till the president is elected all will have to be at home... Excellent.
Mohamed Monday, 18 July 2022 11:03 AM

ALREADY WE ARE WITNESSING ABUSE OF POWER FROM THIS NEWLY APPOINTED ACTING PRESIDENT. IN ADDITION, HE GRANTED A PRESIDENTIAL PARDON TO RANJAN RAMANAYAKA CONTRADICTING SRI LANKA'S JUDICIAL SYSTEM VERDICT. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...

Mostly its going to be Mr. RW the president, hence don't want any any roits in the street.... he may or may not is a different question to bailout Lanka.... But for sure he is the best bet among the other three candidates.

First time ever Ranil has proper power. In the hands of an experienced intelligent person. Cannot have mobs striking, looting and burning to force their way on people. This has to stop and the country needs to move forward.
gamatala Monday, 18 July 2022 01:07 PM
All rulers must listen to the people. What Ranil had done when he was in office. He can't rule the nation with state of emergency. People protest not only they don't have essential supplies. They need transparency, trust etc. That's their expectations. Rulers must understand this.
Pantha Kumara Monday, 18 July 2022 01:53 PM
The most unpopular man wants to be a President. To become the President Ranil is doing his best. Remember protesters do not care about State of Emergency.

Rathu Leema Tuesday, 19 July 2022 08:08 AM
