A clash reportedly took place in Chilaw between a group of people who support the government and another group that was against the government.
Police and security forces were deployed to disperse the protesters to take the situation under control.
Police said tense situation culminated when a group of pro-government activists led by State Minister Sanath Nishantha marching towards Puttalam, confronted a group of anti-government protesters from the UNP and another group and engaged in clashes.
Two vehicles were also damaged in the clash

The MP who led the march towards the anti Gota protestors have done it to create a rumpus. If he was a responsible legislator he should have avoided going in that direction. This man is a politician trouble maker
