President’s advisor caught in a storm for allegedly sexually abusing pet dog

A video recording of Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, former advisor to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, allegedly showing him sexually abusing a dog has gone viral after it was released by SJB member Hirunika Premachandra to the media today.

Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, former Advisor to the President and former Member of Parliament, resigned earlier today, just a few hours ahead of Premachandran's press briefing, citing personal reasons.

Premachandra said the pet dog was owned by a woman named Adarshaa Karadana who had been Marasinghe’s girlfriend for two years after meeting him online.

Karadana told the media that she had been Marasinghe’s girlfriend after meeting him online on Facebook, and had lived with him for two years. She said she had become suspicious after the dog’s behavior changed.

She alleged that when she confronted Marasinghe, he physically abused her and she herself had been physically abused by Marasinghe throughout their relationship of two years.

Premachandra claimed that Marasinghe could be guilty of offenses under Sri Lanka’s Penal Code and could face up to 20 years in prison.

Karadana said she had reported Marasinghe’s bestiality to the President’s wife and the President’s Secretary, but that no action had been taken so far.

Karadana had also played an active role in the Aragalaya at Galle Face.

This Professor did a horrible thing and he is exposed, the shame is too much. The humane way to handle this situation would have been to confront the Professor with the evidence and then demand he resign from all public duties permanently and that his shameful crime would not be made public. That should have been the proper way and the Sri Lankan way to handle such a case.

@Attorney, beside being a Lawyer you must have been brought up in a good family to have such a humane attitude to people like this Professor. But most people not just in Sri Lanka are brought up in harsh economic and social environment that they grow to become devoid of humanity or forgiveness even though they may be attending temples , mosques and churches regularly. As you have suggested the Sri Lankan way of handling this Professor would have been to remove him from his position permanently but not to disgrace him to the public and let him live his rest of his life peacefully as a human being.

I have always felt that Sri Lankans are not really civilized people. That is why I couldn't live in SL. Even now, when I visit SL, I see beneath the surface something akin to animal like behaviour - and that is not limited to lower classes of society. And the so called ATTORNEY who suggests that this should be swept under the carpet is one of them. Sri Lankans just need to get more civilized. It will take time. The Sri Lankan way is to hide all their hideous behaviors. All the skeletons locked up in the cupboards. But I know see things slowly changing. It will take another 20 years at least for SL to really get civilized.
