COVID booster jabs will begin to be administered to the relevant groups of people in the near future once the second dose rollout is completed, a top official said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Chairman of State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) Dr. Prasanna Gunasena said it was confusing to administer the booster dose while the second dose rollout is still underway.
“The Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases (ACCD) recommended in May to get ready with booster doses to be given after six-month of the initial dosage, which falls into the end of September, October or November,” he outlined.
“Accordingly, a stock of 14 million doses of Pfizer was procured to be used as a booster dose for people above 60. We have paid the advance for this and we will be getting them by the end of October,” he said.
In addition, Dr. Gunasena said another 800,000 Pfizer doses would arrive in Sri Lanka by the end of September as a donation from the US through the COVAX Facility, which could also be utilised for necessary requirements recommended by the ACCD.
“However, we are yet to receive clear cut recommendations on the booster vaccine rollout,"
"The ACCD has also not yet finalised the date to start giving the booster dose because we are waiting to complete the above for the 18 million population and the children with chronic illnesses,” he underlined.
When asked whether who would receive the booster dose, Dr. Gunasena said initially, the ACCD was planning to give the booster dose to healthcare workers and all those who are above 60 years of age.
“However, it is too early to conclude on this, as the recommendations are yet be finalised,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Finally, a comment that shows an ability to rise above propaganda-driven mass insanity and think clearly, critically -- something even doctors don't seem capable of these days, much less politicians. The pandemic was over by Aug 2020. This is what the data shows worldwide. The deaths worldwide were not significantly different from previous years. What happened was influenza-related deaths plummeted to record low levels, and Covid-19 deaths took over. Seniors who would have ordinarily died by other causes including the flu, died of Covid instead. What has continued to date is scaremongering and "get-the-vaccine" hype. All of this was then compounded by Covid-19 industry profiteering, top to bottom. Every commercial activity is linked to Covid-19 now. The ultimate sufferers are the poorer and ignorant classes of humanity, worldwide. But will comments like this even get published? I doubt it, since it goes against the status quo under the highly orchestrated worldwide media censorship.

At least for the booster dose, priority should be given over 60

Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Please do not make the same blunder you made last time by changing all of a sudden from above 60 to above 30 years of age. I am sure you are aware and agree with the adverse effects of the change.

Now you want to give us a booster shot , people are anxious to know whether this is because the deficiency of the Sinopharm . People who are experiencing problems with two doses of the vaccine will be reluctant to go for the booster. Do a research and let us know whether we will really need the 3rd dose.
