In a major development for Sri Lanka's healthcare sector, the government has unveiled ‘Swastha’ an information management system, creating a platform for people to access the availability of drugs they wish to purchase.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Health Ministry Additional Secretary Dr. Saman Rathnayake said, “This comprehensive system will ensure that pharmaceuticals, surgical items and consumables are readily available to healthcare providers, enabling them to deliver high-quality care to patients across the country,”
“The Swastha system also boasts enhanced interoperability, allowing seamless communication among all healthcare institutions, from the highest levels down to the ward and pharmacy counters. This connectivity will ensure a smooth flow of information and resources, ultimately leading to improved patient care,” the Additional Secretary added.
The introduction of Swastha marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's ongoing efforts to provide accessible and quality healthcare to all citizens. With this innovative information management system, the government is poised to streamline operations, maximize efficiency and ultimately enhance the overall healthcare experience for the population. Correction: Availability of medicines now within reach for rich people.

Medicines were always available to the chosen citizens of Sri Lanka. The rest will have to do with substandard Indian medicines. To bad if they die, on the long run we are all dead.

Does the common man access the information provided by a management system ? What he/she really wants are that the drugs are provided to the respective hospital dispensaries where they regularly go to obtain these medicines. Invariably drugs are not available at these dispensaries at hospitals and have to go to one pharmacy or to another for those who can afford to purchase these drugs. What about the majority who can't afford ? Will a management system system satisfy their needs ? First and foremost let the government get things in order to ensure an uniterrupted supply of quality medicines sans any underhand dealings in procurement.

I just can't understand in which world our politicians are living. The majority could hardly sign their name or even read, they don't know how to use a Android phone and you people are creating Apps for who to see.

How is SWASTHA GOING TO HELP THE PEOPLE ? MERELY MAKING A PLATFORM TO ENABLE PEOPLE TO KNOW THE AVAILABILITY OF DRUGS etc. IS MEANINGLESS. THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS THAT PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY THEM AT THE CURRENT PRICES OWING TO CORRUPTION. HENCE IT IS IDIOTIC TO THINK THAT SWASTHA HAS DONE GREAT SERVICE TO THE PATIENTS.

There no option for creating a new user on the homepage. How will an information management system improve the availability and affordability of medicines when the procurement is none transparent and corrupt?
