Homagama police yesterday carried out a raid on a park run by a private institution in Homagama on complaints that underage children were allowed to engage in sexual activities in cubicles at the park and found 24 young couples in the cubicles.

Police said they carried out the raid on a search warrant issued by Homagama magistrate in response to complaints received from parents, religious dignitaries.

A senior police official said several couples were behaving in a indecent manner and they had even stripped their clothes. Investigations revealed that most of them had left home under the pretext of attending tuition classes.

The police summoned their parents and handed them over after severely reprimanding them. The parents were advised to take care of their children and to prevent them from being led astray in this manner.

An individual in charge of the institution had engaged in a heated argument with the police.(Buddhika Kumarasiri)

What was the heated argument about? and what action has been taken against the owners of the institution for allowing minors to engage in sexual activity on his premises?

    Lanka Monday, 25 September 2023 11:26 AM

What kind of private institution is this?who runs it? What is it ? Is it a private tuition centre ?/if so ..The minister of Education is responsible to this... Our societies are going down day by day .whither sri Lanka ?

Lankan forever Monday, 25 September 2023 05:29 PM

This is the coming normal in Sri Lanka. As long as there is easy access to contraception then these sex rooms will be more popular everywhere. Soon private houses will give rooms for day hire for sex to person 18 years old. Availability of contraception, and sex for pleasure instead of making children is cause for this.

Peephole looker Monday, 25 September 2023 11:39 AM

Surely the individual in charge of the institution knew he was encouraging an illegal activity. Why was he not charged.

    Ama Monday, 25 September 2023 11:47 AM

The INDIVIDUAL "in charge" should be CHARGED. Why government is hesitating to pass a stringent law on these.

Liberal One Monday, 25 September 2023 11:49 AM

They waste time in 20s and then complain about hard life at 30s. Tries to migrate at 40s, realises it's a mistake at 50s.

You said it right. These days, there are some school kids more focussed on adult and married life. Society has changed.

    Citizen2023 Monday, 25 September 2023 12:16 PM

The school teachers n Principals of all schools should be made aware of this to enable them to warn the students against such activities. Parents should be vigilant n check on their children who are going for private tuitions.

Rule of Law Monday, 25 September 2023 12:34 PM

Looks as if the Police has settled the matter by merely warning the parents ? Should this not be taken to Courts and the owner of the private institution who owned the Park be charged ? Is it because of Political influence ?

OIC probably been paid off by the business owner Monday, 25 September 2023 05:35 PM

The establishment did nothing wrong. It just provided short term room for private (sex) activity. It is those who paid who are tricking their parents. The law can be ignored easily. Look at LG elections, the Supreme Court is spoken of respectfully, but their judgements are completely ignored and the Supreme Court looks the useless fool.

    Lanka Monday, 25 September 2023 01:01 PM

These kids well have some difficulties in their marriage life if they are doing all this at this age . They should keep their health protracted from all kinds of social deseases such as aids

    Dee Monday, 25 September 2023 01:05 PM

Interesting set of comments. Some totally wired ones. Blaming education minister etc. Private Tution- a big worry (but certainly not for parents) . Entry to parks and malls by minors- interesting to see what the legal background is (there will be a massive outcry if everyone’s ID’s are checked when entering such places) . Overall-this is a social issue. With time and modern age, we have lost our values.

Probably this was not owned by any of the 225 or their close aides. if so, there would never be a raid. The owners seemed to have missed the right link to survive with the business...

Sam Silva Monday, 25 September 2023 05:20 PM

Why it too long to raid. Seems this was going on for sometime. Maybe the owners didn't pay them .

Maybe had local thung protection, but not parlimentary thug protection Monday, 25 September 2023 05:33 PM

Of course if it was owned by an MP it would not be raided. Once the Provincial councils happen and Provincial Council MPs have power this kind of corruption will be ever harder to uproot. Cumming election will only cause more problems in the country.

    Ostrich Monday, 25 September 2023 02:34 PM

We deserve this. We have had our heads buried in the sand and now we are complaining. This is due to our complacency. Why should there be a need for "private" tuition if teachers are doing their jobs?

Freedom of human beings must be respected, no one have the rights to interven their privacy, laws of nature.

    Ram Monday, 25 September 2023 02:58 PM

Please arrest and remand the Park owners/authorities who permitted these underaged into cubicles charging them money. That will be a deterrent to future similar businesses

    Mohan Monday, 25 September 2023 03:06 PM

@Dee: It has to do with the internet and Western movies. Parents have to take the responsibility.

ChildOf God Monday, 25 September 2023 03:12 PM

Looks like a PRIVATE run Brothel, only difference is they do not have staff on their payroll, instead you find your own partner male and or female and book our cubicles, or is this park run like a hotel renting out cubicles to be used for sexual activities, do they charge by the hour??. The OWNER of the premises/Park should be arrested and put before a court of law.

Citizen Silva Monday, 25 September 2023 03:45 PM

Must be following the MP of the areas footsteps

    Terrence K Monday, 25 September 2023 04:02 PM

Always the scapegoats are the Western movies or the Internet. As a parent we have to have a tight leash on our children. and regulate the movies that they watch and what sites they browse on the internet. Isn't passwords the mode that could be used to ensure the way that users surf the internet. In everything there is the good and the bad. The internet could broaden one's knowlege whilst western movies a variety of entertainment. So Parents choose what your children need to see and what not to see!!!!!!!!

    Maithiri Monday, 25 September 2023 04:21 PM

Reason of the argument could be that a local politician must be running this. Police should check if there is a secret cameras inside the cubicles for their acts are captured and gone for sale in dark web!!

Action can only be taken against the couples who are underage (below 16 yrs) and not otherwise. They were behaving or misbehaving not in public. Above 16 couples can go for an FR case if they want. They are lot of precedencies. Law is that.

Gama Hami Monday, 25 September 2023 06:50 PM

In Sri Lanka, the age of consent for sexual activity is 16 years whereas a age of majority is 18. What is relevant is the age of consent not whether the person is a minor. It is sad that nether Daily Mirror or people who commented do not understand the basic law of the country,

Catch the BIG fish; may be a minister or mp is behind this

    A nizam Monday, 25 September 2023 08:50 PM

Doesn’t the police have anything else better to do? There are murders and drugs everywhere. Politicians looting the country. There are plenty of these crooks, murders and drug dealers having sex in all the upscale hotels.. but you are worried abt these poor consenting adults.. what a joke. Get a life.

This is appreciated as a special duty by children by the police in order to discourage underaged children

    DD Thursday, 28 September 2023 01:19 PM

Can I have the HOMAGAMA address? Just kidding. Looking at this report, if the children are more than 18 years old, they can't be treated as children; they're practically seasoned young adults! I believe that might be the reason the owner of the business had a heated argument with the police. In this case, I must say, I condemn the police for not pressing charges against the owner. The police should explain on which grounds they let the owner slip away – maybe the owner's argument was just too 'adult-like' for them.
