NPP complains to EC on unlawful appointment of Secretaries

The National Peoples’ Power (NPP) yesterday complained to the Elections Commission (EC) over the removal and appointment of secretaries to several Cabinet Ministries in violation of election laws.  

Onetime Ministry Secretary Ashoka Peiris said it was against election laws to make new appointments, make transfers and removals in the government service after an election was announced.  

He told media after lodging the complaint that the elections commission had issued the relevant gazette on March 3 suspending such appointments, transfers and removals and added that however, the President has appointed secretaries to seven ministries in violation of the laws.
