Eradicating COVID-19 Support Govt. to prepare national plan: Ranil

Everyone should support the government to prepare and implement a national plan to combat the COVID-19 infection, former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe 
said yesterday.  

“I appeal to the people in this country to focus on their safety and together overcome this new challenge,” he said in a special statement.    

Mr. Wickremesinghe said such a plan was imperative with the National New Year, Easter and Ramadan round the corner,” he said. “In countries like Italy there are 25 beds for every 200,000 people whereas in Sri Lanka it is the other way about with only one bed for every 200,000 people.   

Mr. Wickremesinghe said main cities in the world which played a major role in the global economy were affected by the virus.   

“ It is sad that many have not understood the gravity of the catestrophe yet,” he said and pointed out that he had already requested the government to convene an all-party discussion and had also appealed to Election Commission Chairman to re-think about holding the general election.
