Guaranteed paddy prices announced for 2026 Yala season

Colombo, June 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has announced the guaranteed prices at which it will purchase paddy from farmers during the 2026 Yala cultivation season

According to the Minister of Trade Wasantha Samarasinghe, the Government will purchase Nadu paddy at Rs. 120 per kilogram, Samba at Rs. 130 per kilogram, and Keeri Samba at Rs. 140 per kilogram under the guaranteed price scheme.

He said the measure is aimed at ensuring fair prices for farmers while maintaining stability in the paddy market during the Yala harvest.

Meanwhile, the Minister said the Government has also launched a programme to expedite the release of existing rice stocks to the market in a bid to ensure an adequate supply of rice for consumers and ease market shortages.
