Fathers now welcome in delivery room in state hospitals

• Separate rooms prepared for each mother within the maternity ward

The Castle Street Hospital for Women in Colombo has initiated a new programme permitting fathers to be present in the delivery room during childbirth.   Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Dr. Ajith Danthanarayana, the Director of the hospital, said that this initiative marks a significant milestone as the first government hospital to implement such a programme.   

Dr. Danthanarayana emphasized that separate rooms have been specifically prepared for each mother within the maternity ward.   

He highlighted the programme’s potential to enhance the birthing experience for women, enabling them to deliver their child in a conducive environment.
