Although previous governments in the country were only aided by drug traffickers, Casino and distillery merchants in past, the present government was administrated by them, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) charged today.

“The Customs officials nabbed only few kilogrammes of heroin or one barrel of ethanol from government helpers in past but large number of heroine hauls and many containers with ethanol barrels are detected constantly today proving that this government was controlled by these corrupt people,” JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayke told a news conference.

He said taking legal action against these kinds of people was not possible as they were under the protection of the government.

Commenting on a case filed against an accused of heroin trafficking through the Attorney General which had later withdrawn by the Attorney General himself, Mr. Herath said bringing down of the Attorney General’s Department under the purview of President Mahinda Rajapaksa had damaged the independence of the Department.
