Colombo, August 6 (Daily Mirror) - In what seemed to be a hint of the future of the government, Opposition MP Chaminda Wijesiri claimed in Parliament that it was Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya who was the leader of the National People's Power (NPP), while asking an oral question into alleged corruption that has taken place during the tenure of the present government.
MP Wijesiri asked what the PM was going to do to address allegations of the corruption surrounding the sale of salt and garlic at exorbitant prices, "as the leader of the National People's Power."
PM Amarasuriya began her response by saying, "I don't want to engage myself with the hints which the MP is coming out with," before saying, "Our government is trying to change the culture of corruption that has existed in the past."
MP Wijesiri commended the PM, saying he was aware that she was not directly involved in any corruption, adding, "We know you are innocent. My civic rights would have been suspended if it was not for you."
