Two sentenced to death for murder

Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - Two accused who stood indicted with murder were found guilty and sentenced to death by Matale High Court Judge Ravindra Premaratne yesterday.

The accused Ekanayaka Mudiyanselage Thusitha Dasanayake and Kosgahahenegedara Samarasuriya of Gonawala in Laggala had on January 23, 2023 shot dead Don Chandra Jayantha Kannangara (26) and caused gunshot injuries to Dissanayaka Mudiyanselage Prasanna Dissanayake.

The deceased was the son of a former chairman of the Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha.

Delivering the judgement the High Court Judge held that the prosecution had established the charges beyond reasonable doubt to secure a conviction against the accused.

State Counsel Shashikala Kumari Hewage prosecuted.
