Suspect jumps from moving train at Moratuwa

A man who stole the handbag of a woman at knifepoint in a train travelling from Aluthgama towards Colombo, had jumped from the moving train at Egoda Uyana Railway Station in Moratuwa in the early hours today.

However, the police said the suspect was arrested at the railway station with the help of the public.

Police said the woman had also jumped from the train chasing after the suspect. She had been injured in the fall and had been admitted to the Panadura Base Hospital.

The arrested suspect, a father of two, is a resident of Keselwatta, Panadura and the police said he had stolen the handbag to pay house rent.
