Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Railway Controllers' Union announced that it will launch a 48-hour token strike from midnight on Friday (20), protesting the authorities’ failure to address several longstanding issues.

Speaking at a media briefing, the union’s spokesman said they had been urging the government for more than two years to resolve their demands. However, the railways administration had consistently failed to provide acceptable solutions, prompting the union to resort to strike action.

Despite discussions held with the Railway administration, the Transport Minister, and the Ministry Secretary, the instructions issued to address these issues have not been implemented, the spokesman claimed.

The strike will be staged over several key demands, including the continuous delay in promotions for the special class of Railway Controllers, failure to resolve salary anomalies, and the lack of proper investigations into administrative issues within the department.

The union warned that if no positive response is received, further trade union actions would be considered.
