Colombo, June 06 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Coast Guard today paid tribute to its founding Director General, Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapriya (Retd), at a special ceremony held at Coast Guard Headquarters in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of the institution.
The event honoured Rear Admiral Dharmapriya’s pioneering role in laying the foundation for the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and his leadership in shaping its early direction. Drawing on his extensive experience and foresight, he established the framework that enabled the Coast Guard to evolve into a key maritime law enforcement and safety agency in the country.
The Coast Guard noted that his vision and strategic guidance continue to influence the Department’s growth, development, and modernization.
Rear Admiral Dharmapriya and his spouse were warmly received by the current Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, upon their arrival at the headquarters.
During the ceremony, Coast Guard officials commended the former Director General’s dedication, leadership, and outstanding service during his tenure. In recognition of his enduring legacy, Rear Admiral Dharmapriya was invited to ceremonially declare open the Leadership and Management Unit at Coast Guard Headquarters, an initiative aimed at strengthening the institution’s educational and professional development resources.
Commemorative gifts were also presented to Rear Admiral Dharmapriya and his spouse in appreciation of their contributions and support.
The event was attended by Deputy Director General Commodore Prasad Jayasinghe, Heads of Departments, officers, and Coast Guard personnel.
