Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) - The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat has introduced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the attitudes, ethics, and service standards of three-wheeler drivers operating within the country’s tourism sector, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

An initial discussion on the implementation of the program was held yesterday (18) at the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat. According to officials, the initiative plans to train 10,000 three-wheeler taxi drivers engaged in the tourism industry across all nine provinces within this year.

The program, estimated to cost Rs. 25 million, will conduct ten training sessions in each province. It will focus on educating drivers about traffic regulations, promoting ethical conduct, and improving the quality of services offered to both local and foreign tourists.

As part of the initiative, a dedicated software application will be introduced for three-wheeler drivers in the tourism sector to further enhance service standards. The program also aims to encourage drivers to adopt better attitudes, maintain personal hygiene, and improve their familiarity with tourist destinations, ensuring a more professional, friendly, and reliable service for visitors.

Authorities believe this effort will not only uplift service quality in the tourism transport sector but also contribute positively to Sri Lanka’s image as a tourist-friendly destination.
