While criticizing the suppression on peaceful protesters, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) alleged today that President Ranil Wickremesinghe was trying to act as a dictator by completely depriving people of their freedom.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference that the Ranil Wickremesinghe government has resorted to suppression to prevent people's uprising against the hardships they have to deal with such as astronomical cost of living, increasing interest rates and many more.
He said they would take every action against this disruptive move within the judiciary, constitution and take people to the street.
He said if President Ranil Wickremesinghe believes that he could rule the country by suppression, it was a mere dream.
"Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who had several military lines to protect him and had even a bunker inside the President's House, had to flee after people's protest. Ranil Wickremesinghe is also trying to protect himself by declaring high security zones. He will soon have to hide in a bunker and his high security zones will be encroached by protesting people," he said.
Mr. Dissanayake urged the government to stop this suppression on people immediately and threatened to take every action against this disruptive move. (Ajith Siriwardana)
