President should declare stand on PSC drama: JVP

While indicating awareness of a political game behind the appointment of the PSC, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that President Maithripala Sirisena should make a statement in parliament as to how the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe the Easter Sunday attack had been a drama, as claimed by him.

He told parliament that no room should be left for any moves to prevent the culprits of the Easter Sunday attack from being revealed to the country.

He said they were aware of a political game behind this PSC and added that the JVP had been involved in the activities of the PSC to ensure its efficiency and impartiality.

MP Dissanayake speaking during the debate to extend state of emergency by one month said nine police officers were set to be charged for being unable to prevent the bomb attacks and added that the government had no moral right to investigate those police officers.

"How can the government investigate the police officers? They get a moral right to do it only if they were not responsible for the incident. But the whole government including the President and the Prime Minister were aware of the impending attack and should be held responsible," he said.

The MP said even though the Muslim leaders were aware of Islam extremism being spread in the country, they kept quiet about it. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
